Salt

I cannot with my crippled fingers paint the sky with all its tears,
I cannot with these trembling arms hide insecurity in the mirrors,
I cannot with these broken legs walk the distance that it takes,
To get to love, to hope, to you - wherever that safe place is,
And somehow you still love me,
Somehow you seem to care,
And though I want to say I love you, you see, it would be unfair,
Because you deserve so much better than I am or ever could be,
Because you’re a faceted jewel in the rough,
And I’m a grain of salt to the sea,

About this poem

I wanted to try and express a nameless but confusing emotion that I think many people have had in an artful way. I hope it is enjoyed by those who read it.
