Lost in Space
First it’s one distraction, then comes the next.
Everything nowadays makes me feel perplexed.
What is the date?
Where am I from?
Sometimes I confuse this moment for one
That never existed.
I’m not consistent.
Reality blurs with imagination
Life is an illusion to which
With me as no relation.
Certain moments feel like dreams
Nothing is what it seems.
I dream what I think is real
Do I even know what these words mean?
Do I truly know how I feel?
I’m drowning in a pool of thoughts and figures
Colors blend and fade to words and blanks.
Suddenly I am filled with vigor
And then it’s lost and I return to my undisturbed state.
I’m chained to a ground from which I cannot rise
Blind and cannot see, but I hear and think everything
Until I open my eyes
And forget what happened to me
I’m melting into a multiverse
Of facts and opinions and truths
Everytime I wake up I feel worse
Only in sleep am I soothed.
Yet at the same time,
How do I fall asleep?
Seems a bit foolish.
One closes their eyes,
Then makes up a dream.
Think about nothing, then everything,
And in a dark flash it’s sunny
And the sweet dreamer is clueless.
I have gone on a rant.
Forgot what I talked about.
I think it is the truth?
That I doubt.
I’ll just go write on a wall,
Or maybe comb my hair.
I really just write poems to stall
Time which generates needless thoughts and cares.
About this poem
While it's mostly up for interperetation, I tried to write a poem that depicts the way I see the world, as an individual who struggles with paying attention and constantly suffers from deja vu and derealistic sensations. This poem truly digs into a deep point in my mind that I've kept hidden for a while. I feel that it is only in poems that I can truly express myself.
