House of Wolves

I heard a drip in the wall.
An empty echo.
Trapped in a chamber.
It kept repeating.
Over again.
Falling like raindrops in a hollow vacuum.
Like tumbling stones right before the ocean swallows them whole.
A single sound so deafeningly loud.
What did I expect to find?
I would go mad.
Was already starting to.
Through the glass,
the sunlight spites me with its bright glow.
I look out the window and it mocks me with its happiness.
As if to say "look what you cannot do".
I peer into a mirror.
So much sadness in her eyes.
So much sadness reflected back at me.
Is this me?
A pit that absorbs all light?
A chasm that good things fall into?
Falling like droplets of water inside old plaster.
Waiting endlessly for something to change.
I have all the time in the world for nothing to happen.
