What Happened After I Met You
George Cook 1934 (Lanarkshire)
What better could I have wished for, in the days before I met you
I really don't know the answer, and I don't even have a clue
But that's a different story, it is one on which I won't dwell
What happened after I met you, is the story I want to tell
We courted for just o’er a year, then decided to take a stance
And we put in place the touches, for a long and loving romance
My life it was changed forever, on the day that you said “I do”
You looked at me and gave a smile, and I gave one right back to you
Though we smiled when we courted, this one was a bit more sincere
And it became the first of all the things, that I would 'hold so dear'
In the times we spent together, there is much I learned about you
To add to my 'hold so dear’ list, as our love for each other grew
You were such a special person, who would always light up my days
You were my friend and my companion, and you had such sweet loving ways
You brought so much into my life, thoughtfulness, tenderness and care
And in times whether good or bad, you would most certainly be there
You always joined in the laughter, and you would always make me smile
You knew just how to let me be, and make my life much more worthwhile
My ‘hold so dear' list could go on, to me really there was no end
Cheerfulness, love and devotion, in the years together we'd spend
Fifty eight years and four months long, I wished it didn't have to be
But my life it was changed again, when you were called away from me
Our romance never ended though, because I'm still in love with you
Just the same as I was before, until my time on earth is through
