Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge

Cathedrals in a timeless sky
under her gothic arches
we walk its wooden paths
under a setting sun

Birds that nest through rigged lines
amidst thunder of traffic and river flows
sun in the sky water below
city to the east where crowds of
people rush by

To walk its path across is to walk with
those of past that meet its present time
listen to the ebbs and flows
we watch the people sit and play
and through the business of the day

To watch the river and the sky
and the boats that pass her by
through the currents of living crowds
to stop and watch the seagulls fly
and let the eye be dazzled by its tracks
and beams that reach the wanton sun

Look over its side see the ports
where tall ships still dock at bay
with all their masts for display

Reflections from the water below
of shimmering lines of steel and rock
city scapes melt into tides of dreams
connect the boroughs of commerce
work and home under a river that
flows eternal and sunsets drenched
in splendor

Mosaics of people and passers by
lovers on benches oblivious to all
sun that set to city lights under a
liquid silver moon

A lone musician plays his horn
perched against the arch of stone
and fading stars and yellow moon
