In the wilderness of our hearts

Within the wilderness of our hearts

Returning ashes to the ground
of our beginnings
where weve plotted  along the way
and its dust slips away
through our fingers in the wind

that which rises from the grasses
from those that are wild
amidst the weeds

make of real of that we dream
in its silence where hope is born
a song whose song all life sings
from the roots of swaying leaves

where fields grow free
in the memory of ourselves
from seed to seed
all in its place

future as in its past
in the community of our times
through the possibility
and motion of our world

open as flowers in the spring
through the silence of the bees
in cultivated wilderness of our hearts
we learn from past
transcend what is in its becoming
in the eternal present

meaning balanced against itself
beyond which paths
are seldom tred
in memories of its stillness
our ways are cleared
