The Race

Six riders coming home from an evening ride
About 4 blocks away from the coffee shop,
Let's have a race, someone said to decide
Who gets a free coffee, turning the pedal non stop !

Only one rider liked the idea,
Off we went riding side by side,
Allowing no one to get he lead, we were focused
What at stake was our pride !

Heads bent down, and grinding legs
Our bikes had become a human machine,
2 grown men competing to an extra high level,
Winner takes all, the prize of a coffee !

Sweat, tears in our eyes made us try harder,
At stake, who could bare the pain the most,
It was so intense, our muscles working like a monster,
At the end, only the winner could boast !

With about 50 feet to go
Both of us in "second' wind, still tied,
I looked down and put my legs in overdrive
He gave up with a loud yell !

The moral of this story is this
Don't tangle with an old seasoned senior,
I was 75, he was 55 years old at this race,
Extra twenty years of experience was the factor !

Viva, to the victor and Tim Horton coffee !
