THE HORSEMAN

When the horseman enters
The forest he quickly
Turns an old passage way
It has been centuries
Since the passage way
Had been used by man
But the horseman was
On a mission
He had to deliver
A message to
The town’s people
On the other side of
The forest
The crows and vultures
Circles above him
While the woodland
Wolves stalked and
Tracked him from
The brush
Howling to the rest
Of the pack along the
Horseman’s path
Letting them know
That the hunt was
On
The horseman slows
His horse down
From a sprint
To a gallop
And then to a walk
As they approached
A windy river along
Their path
Still unaware of the
Wolves that was
Stalking them as prey
Or to the crows and
Vultures waiting for a
Free meal
The horseman slides
Off of his horse
And walks the horse to
The river’s edge to drink
The horseman turns his back
To the horse as he
Tracks the howl of
The wolves as the
Wolves gaze upon him
And his horse from
The brush.
