Slipping

How long must I wait
With baited breath
And tearful eyes that threaten to spill

How long must I wait
For the pieces to fall into place
So that they have had enough time to fall properly

How long must I wait
And be told some mysterious benefactor
Holds everything in their palm

How long must I wait
And hear the same three platitudes droned at me
With no true purpose behind their words

How long must I wait
Until i see the rainbows and butterflies
Everyone else claims to exist

Just give it time
It's in god's hands
Things will get better soon

How long must I wait
Not just to see these things I'm told are coming
But to believe that they will too

How long must I wait
In this dark, consuming void
That threatens to swallow all who enter it

How long must I wait
To live this punishment sentence
That was given to me without will or warning

How long must I wait
Until the suffocation finally defeats me
As I pound on its chest with waning strength

How long must I wait
Until the tiniest sliver of hope I have whithers away
And I'm truly left with nothing

How long must I wait
Because a different ending is getting closer
A fate that takes most of the souls in here

How much longer must I wait?
Haven't I waited long enough?
