Here

While precious words dance in my head
And make my heart feel free of weight,
It remains tethered down by a stark heaviness
Whose chains I cannot shake.

Your words that brighten even the darkest nights;
Your words, so sweet to the tongue and ear,
Are lost in the waves of longing I have
To simply have you near.

Your aura has left a permanent stain
In the air it used to occupy.
Sometimes it feels as if I could just reach out
And feel you once last time.

With baited breath, my hand stretches out
But ultimately will hesitate
For the fear of breaking such fragile magic
Will cause the moment to dissipate.

Like a glittering shadow, it will rise,
On majestic wings it will soar.
With a lump in my throat, I will look to my feet
And know that you are here no more.

"Do not weep for me," you used to say
"I am always here."
And yet in the quiet, loneliness of night,
My body will shake with tears.

I frequently dream and search for you,
For any little sign,
For any small, insignificant reminder
That you, at one point, were mine.

A comforting weight across my shoulders,
The gentle touch of a hand,
A thumb that used to stroke my cheek,
A heart too full of love for one human.

With clenched teeth and balled fists,
I cry, "Why did you have to leave?
"You say you left me everything,
"But you are the only one I need."

Maybe one day the wind will whisper
And the birds' call will break the morning bleak,
And on that day I may think of you
And lose the urge to weep.

Until then, my love, I leave you this,
My one, simple prayer:
That even if I cannot see you,
I feel you everywhere.
