teenage girl

i’m tired, exhausted, overwhelmed.
everyday i wake up and i’m stuck in this realm.
society beats me up like a stick to a drum,
i look at my phone and expect the worst is to come.
put together, skinny, toned
all thing i wish to have and to own
but why not love my body?
for it is society who takes over my mine like karate,
chopping and kicking all the positive thoughts away.
stereotyped excessively and everywhere,
if i’m “too loud” or showing “too much,” i just might catch a stare.
we’re not athletic, we’re not funny
my confidence pours out slowly like honey.
these double standards make me want to hurl,
please, have mercy on me, for i am just a teenage girl.
