I Ate Revelation

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

The sound was almost deafening
For about a half an hour
The torrents blew across the shore
The people had no power

The radio was on the fritz
And every tongue was silenced
No way to get the latest news
Because of all the violence

The heavens were appalled
And not an angel made a sound
The Lord had looked for righteous men
But not one could be found

Fire and destruction were the way
The earth was cleansed
The fire came down from the Lord
On all their wicked heads

And now we’ll blow the trumpets
To assemble all the masses
The schools were all left open
But they canceled all the classes

It really doesn’t matter much
Today they just teach lies
The teachers say we came from apes
And we can believe our eyes

But as for all my household
We will choose to live by faith
We’ll wait and watch for Jesus
And our faith won’t be a waste

Make your choice or don’t believe
The words I wrote are true
The next time that he comes to earth
He’s coming here for you

But if you are not ready
When he comes, you’re left outside
The sound of gnashing teeth is yours
As you choke on your pride

Better be getting ready!
