Crumb

The footsteps beat like a drum
A pathetic speck of dust
The broom chases the crumb

To death it will not succumb
“Do not sweep me!”, it fussed
The broom chases the crumb

The sweeper approaches with a hum
A close shave from being crushed
The broom chases the crumb

It is but a speck, it is scum!
Bristles move on in disgust
The broom chases the crumb

Do not take me as dumb,
It jumps over a gust
The broom chases the crumb

Who knows where it’s from?
This whole thing is robust!
The footsteps beat like a drum
The broom chases the crumb
