Pools Of Irrationality

Pools Of Irrationality

Past times, a section of the mind, was devoted to irrational thoughts and visions
Small in size, everyone’s pool of irrationality was pretty much different
One person’s palace, another person’s pile of rubbish, never imagined

Those pools have grown so much in size, as rationality melts out of sight
Now everyone’s swimming around inside, looking for islands of rationality
Polar bears swimming around, makes no difference, we drown on dry land

Our world, is a world built on science, for science, great works of science
Beliefs okay, until used as rules to govern machines, that have no thoughts
Every computer, smart machine, phone or tablet, is a slot machine

Using bits of life, every time levers pulled, leveraging nothing into something
Brains are not required for acting intelligently, single cell creatures are doing great
Plants brains are in their roots, above ground the machinery of life blossoms

Rhyme and reason became melodies without words, background scenery
Drifting flights of fancy, once powerless, now marching down dead ends
Flawed decisions clearly practiced, never noticed, as we’re all doing it

About this poem

The part of the mind devoted to irrational thought, formerly a walled off, deeply personal, private section, has turned into a public stadium where everyone shares the same flights of fancy.
