The Revival

Who knew I could write?
Who knew how far back these verses sat inside me?
These emotions sometimes made my chest tight.
I needed a platform to set the sensations free.

Pen to paper, quickly jotting all that lies within.
Does it make sense?
In my mind and heart is where this all begins.
Grip the pen tighter as the body gets tense.

Should I continue to write, they will see me for how I am?
I will be naked to the world, open for judgement.
I just write without concern for the masses, simply don’t give a damn.
Writing from the heart as I sometimes wonder where that part of me went.

You can freeze time, you cannot keep it ice-covered forever.
Break the top layer to get what’s beneath.
For I too have seen some storms and have been weathered.
And from the bottom rung to the top of a ladder I would somehow reach.

 My climb has been worth it, I have toppled many obstacles along the way.
But I do not need to prove anything anymore.
I cannot be broke down any further I am here to stay.
Tomorrow and years from now I assure you I will break down many doors.

And while the peaks and valleys still do exist.
I work hard to take in what has been learned.
Sometimes feeling bad that I could do something different, looking back is hard to resist.
But I have lived those chapters in my life; it is time the page has turned.

For I am not conflicted; as much as I am tried.
Experienced jubilee and triumphs but too have sat in a dark corner and cried.
Have to hit rock bottom to again reach the unreachable prize.
Like the phoenix from the ashes many times I would graciously rise.

I’m proud to have fought off some unseen tribulations.
Perhaps for years I sat in utter denial.
New experiences wait along with physical and emotional destinations.
I’m coming out the other side a better man and person  as this is my ‘revival.’
