Friday Night Lights
Football love
Friday night lights
Humidity, nachos, the occasional touchdown, a roaring crowd
The band playing a random 80’s tune, the cheerleaders cheering for the student section
Sweaty teenagers not paying attention to the game and paying more attention to each other
That was the case with us
You were the opposite of what I thought you'd be
Sort of shy but still charismatic
I hope I’m what you thought I’d be
I sat next to you for the whole second half, the sticky texas air suffocating my feelings at hand
Dr Pepper dripping down my arm and onto my leg
My other hand in someone else’s popcorn bag
My head spinning with the knowledge of you right next to me
It's crazy to think how little you knew about me
It's even crazier to think where things would go
I don't remember whether the team won or lost- I don't think I care
I do remember your hand brushing mine for a split second
In that split second sparks flew right into my eye and blinded me
Everything we said was blur, I made you laugh you made me blush
You always make me blush
I honestly don't know how long the rest of the game lasted
I sort of just blinked and it was over and I went home
Sitting between my two best friends in the car, and all I could think of was you
Your corny jokes that made me roll my eyes
The way you laughed at my jokes
When you tried to steal my popcorn and knocked over my soda while trying
You
My weeks revolved around friday nights
A whole week wasted away, waiting for those moments spent at the top of the stadium
Monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday
Friday
My holy grail, my special day
My weekends, like my weeks, were filled with thoughts of you
And how you’d react if the team won or what I might wear to the game on Friday,
Or how I wished we’d share popcorn or how I needed to talk more to you this time
My thoughts had been consumed by the boy from the football game
Although football season is over
And all the dr peppers been spilled, the popcorn has been popped, and the band has no more tunes
The way that you made me feel at the top of that stadium is a touchdown for the ages
