Does your heart ever weep for yesterday?

Sherri Sumner 1947 (San Francisco)

Ode

Does your heart ever weep for yesterday?
When you were a child and having fun at play?
Or maybe remembering something not so great.
Before you learned to judge or hate.

Do you ever hear a song or melody from years gone by?
Sometimes you smile and sometimes you cry within your soul.
It’s bittersweet the memories they unfold.
Melodies are time capsules to so many moments in our lives.
They hold so many stories to be told.

A fragrance can fill you with ecstatic pleasure.
Or remind you of a lost chance at what you didn’t say.
Does your heart ever weep for yesterday?

Remembering a special person in your life
or a pet that gave you so much unconditional love.
They seem to drift in and out of your thoughts today.
Yes, sometimes our hearts do weep for yesterday.
