"Innocence Lost Over Time"

Somebody said that I did loose my chance
to do something good with my life
But for me as a man I could never look past
the time that I have to do right
I'll admit that I can't take back all the sad
memories that I made but I'll try
To do what I can for the ones who will stand
right next to me by my side
For the few who demand my life to be damned
I'll be sure to let you know when I die
but one things for sure I know that I've hurt
each one of you I saw cry
Even tho that I've learned none of you did deserve
the pain that i caused when I lied
But the fate that I've earned will forever now burn
for when I look in your eyes I feel blind
To those that I've lost from death that I've caused
forgive me my lord in the sky
For if you gave me the choice to drink up the pois...
zen that I sold i would die
With out a doubt in my mind I would do all the time
if that meant you'd give back a life
Suffering was the cost for the souls that have lost
the reason to live to get high
For the prize to be boss all the minds that were tossed
straight to the gutter for crimes
I wish I could say that I hated my ways that I've lived in the past but I'm fine
I guess it's because everybody that was evil the fault was not mine
The choices were made and the prices were paid
everyone knew that in time
If they never changed the devil has slain an there's never been one of a kind
To go up against the satin the prince
the one who loves taking our lives
So in my defense i did get a glimpse
of the hell that I made outta life
With this water i rinse all of the sins
that have since changed who I am over time
For i never meant for the laws to be bent but that's why they call the old wise
Cause the older you get the more you will sit
and know that it's best to think twice

About this poem

This poem I wrote over 8 years ago. It is about going from a man who live a bad life and did bad things, into the man he was at that present day, feelings he thought, regrets he might or might not have had, and what he had learned through his experiences in life. This life i wrote of was about myself.

I came up from a small town as a an athlete. Moved to a town of a different race at 16. Got into alot of fights. Learned how to survive in the gang affiliate life style. Dropped out of high school because my teacher told me that you could never be anything without a diploma or degree. It took 215 credits to graduate. I dropped out with 265. Took his words as a challenge. I was great with math.. so I used my skills to sell things at a young age.. Opened my first business at 20 years old. My father told me I would fail. Did it anyway and succeeded. I've always had the ability to write, and I enjoy expressing myself. Learned that fighting and making dumb choices got me no where. I love a challenge. I love to help others now. I'm a business minded entrepreneur at heart and I never allow anything to hold me back. I now love building homes, remodeling home and helping others move forward in life.. I've learned over the years that making dumb choices for the wrong reasons will get a man no where. The small things in life matter. Family, friends, love, loyalty, respect and honor. You get to learn these things and learn to make change in life is by simply thinking twice about the choices we make. We all have a choice. more…
