SPECTRAL FIGURES

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Spectral figures are dancing
Beneath the blood moon's light,
Cavorting just after Darkfall
Throughout the loathsome night,

Spectral fiends are scheming
Plotting evil against mankind,
Planning to unleash terrors to
Drive humanity out of its mind.

Twilight is the time for horrid
Figures to completely surround,
Any late-night travellers
Out walking about the town,

Spectral forms lurk in shadows
Waiting for humans to emerge,
From their safe domiciles
To feed the fiends's horrid urge:

An urge to devour all life-forms
Including strolling innocents,
Unaware of creeping shadows
Approaching with evil intent.

Spectral figures are dancing
In the darkened streets,
Hoping to catch naive walkers
Upon whom they all can feast.

Night-time is the right time
For monstrosities hiding near,
Hungry for the foolish unwary
Passing by without due fear.

Yes, after twilight time is
When foul abominations tail,
Any late-night journeyers
Whose life they shall curtail.
