My Mothers Voice

I hate my mother's voice

I hate the way my mother's voice haunts me when I sleep
I can't even get a good night's sleep most of the time
Then in the morning, she’ll yell at me for waking up late

I hate the way my mother's voice makes me feel
Always telling me to eat less and exercise
Picking on me and embarrasses me whenever she has the chance

I hate the way my mother's voice controls me
Telling me what to wear and how to act
Telling me to be more girly, telling me to practice cooking and cleaning

But

I miss the way my mother's voice cradled me to sleep
The way she would hug me when I had nightmares
And how she would kiss me goodnight every day

I miss the way my mother's voice would praise me
The way she would brag about having the best daughter in the world
How she would actually appreciate what I would do for her

I miss the way my mother's voice would talk to me instead of yell
Saying “I love you” to me every second of the day
Admiring me, hugging me, kissing me

I miss my mother's voice
