sun down the moon rises

sun down the moon rises
another night you disdain my vices
again trying to elude your feeling
sun up is full of surprises

the juxtaposition of us is appealing
you envision scenes of us on the ceiling
remnants of the piquancy from a cloud
she spends the next few days concealing

you buzz sweet nothings that should not be
     said aloud
but when named we are disavowed
the bugs you are infested by never were very
     fond of me
howbeit you were evermore proud

and i was never good at poetry
and your songs are always marginally off key
and it's agonizingly hard to see
but when the sun goes down and our eyes
begin to turn to our love, i know i'll get
     down on one knee
