Long Longed the Ocean

Nanma Tomin 2006 (Chennai)

When a weary day takes its toll,
I step out to the ocean, which soothes my soul.

Taking a deep breath of the salty air,
I lay back on the hammock without a care.
As the waves wash over the footprints of the day
I relax, and feel my worries ebb away.

Mesmerized by the ripples of cerulean blue
Which have carried across many a crew.
A wistful smile graces my lips
As I slip into a reverie of tranquil bliss.

Transfixed at the shades of turquoise and cyan,
The serenity calms my troubled mind.

Just as soon as the waves cascade on the shore
They recede back with equal force,
As if tantalizing the viewer to explore,
The treasures of the ocean down below.

My imagination churns out a vivid fantasy,
Of all the magic that could lay below the sea.
Far in the distance, a pod of dolphins calls out to me,
At their whistling, I gaze longingly.

The tide crashes and froths on the beach,
Tempting me of a paradise just out of reach.

Out of the blue, a seagull lets out a deafening screech
And I am unpleasantly jolted out of my daydream.
Disoriented, I frown as I glance at the time
And reluctantly make my retreat with a sigh.
