Super Lassie

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

A flashy young wench from the Irish uprising
As she walked over to me I found it surprising
To see that her scars and her wounds were all real
As we sat down to dinner and ordered our meal

I asked her. How did you get caught in the fight?
She said: I just stood up to do what was right
I asked her again. How did you get into it?
She told me they lied and she could see through it

They told her it just wasn’t worth it to fight
That she ought to lay down and turn out the light
But she wasn’t having it! Neither were they!
So, she got up to leave but they got in her way

A bigger mistake they could not have made!
She knew how to fight; not how to persuade
She threw a roundhouse, knocked one to the floor
Then she growled at the rest as she slammed shut the door

She turned out the lights! I don’t think you should see this
Her feet found their heads and she didn’t miss!
I said how enlightening your ways must have been
To turn foolish boys into much wiser men

We finished our dinner and got up to leave
She got in my face. Said you have to believe!
It was in self-defense that I wrecked them that night
But I must admit it was a delight.
