The Game of Life

The Game of Life

The moment that you step onto the court
The buzzer sounds
Everything fades away,
Friends and Family
Only Coaches and Teammates remain,
The sound of the whistle being blown
The adrenaline rushing is a gazelle running from a cheetah
Going for the loose ball, hitting the ground
In an instant pain rushes up and down your leg
In an instant all of the adrenaline is gone
Everyone holds their breath
Coaches come out to check on you
Your knee is purple and swelling
At halftime your coaches ask, “Can you play.”
Nodding your head while having doubts
Trying to get back into the game but
You aren’t the same player as before,
Aren't As fast
Your coach subs a teammate in for you
Neither you nor your coach says anything
Staying quiet the rest of the game
Wishing that you wouldn’t have gotten injured
Wishing that life would go as planned
Wishing that things are perfect
