Alicia My Friend

Our feelings grew from nothing and blossomed into primal reactions.
Flourishing in the sun, gently kissed by the breeze.
Swaying to and fro in a rhythm created for lovers.
Each touch we share, glance we turn from, with a shy smile.
I fell in love with a dear friend. A reaction, hindsight I know now, was not the path I should have taken.
But the path I find myself on nonetheless.
Her beauty, breathtaking. Her personality, refreshing. Her heart, in need of mending.
I have not met another such as her, she can slay or save me with but a whisper, a mere smile lifts my heart out of the depths of the darkness it's been trapped as of late.
And yet at the same time within that same rescued heart, lies a truth that we could never be.
Age is, but a number, but that number creates an awkwardness. I'm not sure it is fair or just , but it is, nonetheless.
I am a fading knight the reality of aging and how ones youthful expectations will not be fulfilled as one's body losing beauty and strength, forever wasted on the youth, where time is squandered and beauty seems to hold like the morning dew on a fresh spring morn.
The old, what shall I say about me? Long in the tooth, in the winter of his days, cast aside as a memory.
What is this I'm feeling? Heartbreak? Loneliness? Rebound from a loveless marriage and heartless divorce. Perhaps the chance of reconnecting to whom I was in days gone by.
Or maybe just to FEEL, feel one more time.
Or maybe the thought of this beautiful, young, vibrant woman full of mystery and surety. May have a place for me in her heart, within her arms, and dare I in her life. The passion is there between us, both we feel well. To consumate our friendship, would it strengthen or destroy our friendship?
And our friendship is dear to me, make no quarrels there.
And within that friendship I would die a thousand deaths for her to have but one perfect day.
I'm confused of what path, which road do I purse?
Have I dreamt of her beauty, or the way her clothes glide across her skin as if on a cushion of air.
Or the way the air carries her scent caressing my palate, or the laughter when she lays her hand on mine.
Or how when she smiles her eyes brighten and sparkle to make even the grandest star jealous?
And the answer without hesitation is a complete and resounding yes.
A fools errand I fear. Is it folly?
Do I love her?... To be continued...
