Tongue-Tied

First time I saw you,
I wanted to talk to you.
I thought of what to say,
But all that came out was "hey."
Your reply was a simple little "hi,"
And then we had to say goodbye.

I still stop and think of the day,
When all I could muster was a sad little "hey."
I now know you're not that hard to talk to,
It's just so hard to get through
That first interaction,
And childish attraction.

But maybe if I never had been tongue-tied,
I never would've lied,
And said I didn't like you,
Which was really very untrue.
But now you're off with a girl much prettier than I,
Oh, if only I had never been so shy!
