Ukrainian Life

Ukrainian Life

Hoping for some handouts as they wander on their way,
Happy to be still alive, to live another day.
Heading for a country for some safety and protection,
Hoping to meet a family, to make a good connection.

Had no food since yesterday and hungry as can be,
But it’s worth it, to walk now, to somewhere they’ll be free.
No more bombs or missiles, or gunfire can heard.
Knowing they’ll be cared for as someone gave ‘their word’.

Imagine what they’re going through, but no you really can’t,
Although they look resigned to life, they’d really like to rant.
Having left their ravaged homes they all found some release,
but wouldn’t it be better if they’d just been left in peace.

Once again we witness, all the savagery of war,
Soldiers kill civilians, this is never right for sure.
Buildings pounded by missiles and large enemy gun,
Civilians, who want to live, their only choice to run.

It seems our world is just unable, to fully comprehend,
That all violence, and aggression, needs to reach an end.
Hitler tried it long ago, and then he took his life,
Something needs to happen now, to  end Ukrainian strife.
