My Boss's Boss

That’s her over there on the wall,
Smiling at me as if she would hug me;
Which is only gonna happen in the nearest never,
When the sun rises from the west
And sets in the east. When…
When babies are born old and,
They die when they have grown to become
Young again; a typical curious case of Benjamin Bolton.

Funny how she had never reprimanded me,
Yet, the three-score lines on her forehead
And the rumple between her thick malignant brows
Would always warn, “run for your life”
“She ain’t a nice fella!”
I could sometimes hear her voice beneath
My boss’s tongue screaming the flummoxing
Phrase, “next time there’ll be no next time!”

She’s so pious sometimes one could confuse
Her for a demigod; one who’s born of a god.
Sometimes, I feel she’s the elder sister to a god;
The unknown sister who helps the god to think.
Meanwhile she’s not known by the god;
What a lugubrious irony of fate!

Her smile awakens the sun and dismantles
Every darkness around her…brightens one’s day in a
Resplendent manner. C’mon! She cannot be…
She cannot be the nefarious undertone of my boss;
She’s too chaste to be that. Everyone knows my boss is
Notorious for reprimanding her adherents, but
She’s also the adherent of someone else;
A typical case of the bread owner,
And the owner of the bakery.

She celebrates her subordinates directly
And terminates them indirectly.
C’mon! Why would she do that?
She must not be involved directly with
Whatever brings pain and misery to people;
Remember she’s the elder sister of a god,
Hence too chaste to be that – a puritan perhaps;
So, all glory must go to her through her brother,
Or to her brother through her…I’m confused!

Whatever! The point is there’s a glory somewhere
Belonging to someone somehow; being it…
The god or his little older sister.

About this poem

This is a satirical poem ridiculing the religious hypocrisy of the poetic persona's 'Boss' who hides behind her presupposed pious bigotry to deal with her underlings, using their superiors so as not to look bad before her employees.
