LITTLE BALTIMORE

LITTLE BALTIMORE 1986 (Chestertown,MD)

Somewhere
In the distance
On Maryland's
Eastern shore
In a place
Called Chestertown
Lies Little Baltimore
Head up Calvert Street
Between
College Avenue
And
Lynchburg Street
All the way
Up to Calvert Heights
There you'll find
Many things
Roaming through
The night
Potheads
Sitting in cars getting high
While
Crackheads
In there sports cars
Speeding by
There those guys go
Powder to nose
Laughing at illusions
Part
Of their dillusions
Open air drug market
In the broad
Day light
And you ask
Where would be
The cops
None in sight
As a group's
Sitting on your
Green electric box
Car pulls up
Two a.m.
Right beside
Your house
Sitting there
All night long
What for
What is it
All about
Then you here it
Over there
POP
POP
POP
In the air
Here they come
Alarms they share
Makes us all
Aware
What happened
Down there
Loud bass beat
All night long
In the street
Still not gone
No consideration
For
The older
Generation
Who might be
Looking for some peace
Looking for some quiet
Why not go
Party
In your own
Home
Why not go away
And leave us
Alone
Sitting on porches
Tresspassing
As they like
Have to put up cameras
Have to put up
No tresspassing signs
Here comes a dark suv
Doing donuts
In the middle of the street
Cars
Speeding up and down the road
Burning up the gas
No real place to go
Must be hiding something
If you wait till after dark
Driving down
Beside someone's house
Just so you can park
Car leaving fumes
Smells of skunk piss
Smells of cow manure
Don't think I can stand it
Any more
I won't call 911
If I see you doing wrong
But I won't call 911
If you're lying in the road
From an overdose
Then down at the heights
Things
They just aint right
Living off the system
Someone shine the light
Got their rent paid for
Their bills and food too
Popping out the babies
Where's the dad
I don't know
Do you
Won't get a job
Too lazy
Much easier to beg
Or sit around
Getting your fix
While spreading your legs
The hidden side
Of this
Community
They just
Push to the side
Behind lies
And false history
These things
They choose to hide
They go about
Their business
The well to dos
Are unaware
And if they were
Do you think
They'd even care
It's time
To have
A face to face
Stop covering
Everything with race
Forget that high
You're trying to chase
And gain
A level head
Something needs
To happen here
Not murals
On the street
People need
To be more aware
Of things happening
ON Calvert Street
Open your eyes
Stop trying
To ignore
This little piece
Of hell
We call
Little Baltimore.
