For Me

Love is blinding
In which I ran into the wall when I walked past the mirror
Staring into eyes that blinked in time with mine
What I mean is my name
Is the prettiest thing yet to come out of my mouth
No, I do not fear Vanity
She and I hold hands, walking on opposites side of a line called confidence
A line I know better than to cross
Because confidence and cockiness are but consonants apart
On good hair days I dance in the mirror to the rhythm of my heartbeat
A song only I know the lyrics to
The way it pumps
Each beat a word written in code
Meant for me to decipher
For me
The girl I taught to love without an apology
Neither hers nor mine
The girl who loves with a fire so intense it cannot be extinguished
Who loved herself so strongly she became immune to the flames
The radiance inside of me reminds me to keep going
To clear my head from the past
I do not dwell on who stays and who leaves
I will always be there in the dust they left behind
Not waiting for an outstretched hand
I pick myself up to continue forward
Stopping at all the mirrors along the way
Taking a break to smile, to dance, to sit and admire
To reflect
