David and Goliath - War in Ukraine

The attack has begun; lines have been crossed,
Goliath is on the move flexing his mighty force.
No luck for David, this time there will be,
His cities, one by one, to the ground he will see.

All alone stands David to face his plight,
The crowd throws pennies to prolong the fight,
They watch from a distance as the terror unfolds,
Many of his people will not live to grow old.

Goliath will win, he doesn’t play by the rules,
The crowd is hopelessly bound, Oh! Such fools.
Goliath, they say will pay a might price,
He will live to rue not heeding their advice.

But the giant laughs, he has heard such talk before,
Doesn’t care, once they don’t come knocking on his door.
New alliances he has quietly made,
They can keep their sanctions, won’t affect his trade.

Talk, talk and yet more talk,
All the while Goliath continues to walk,
While David and his people feel the pain,
Each day brings Goliath further gain.

It’s only a matter of time before the rout is complete,
David and his people will be swept off their feet.
But the crowd will take comfort that they played by the rules,
And the giant will laugh, Oh! How he outwitted the fools.

David is battered, he’s on the ropes.
Continues the struggle though he knows there’s not much hope.
It’s plain to see, the writing is on the wall,
One by one his cities will fall.

Goliath warns the crowd to stay away,
Else a heavy price they’ll have to pay.
Tails between their legs they meekly stand aside,
While the giant continues to tan David’s hide.

Wives and mothers kiss their loved- ones goodbye,
Fleeing their homes with a heavy sigh,
Not sure if they’ll meet once more,
Broken hearted, they leave for some foreign shore.

The crowd can’t help, David is not on their team,
The giant is aware, it is part of his scheme.
Injustice upon injustice is heaped upon this land,
Bells toll to signal farewell to the brotherhood of man.

How many times must history have to repeat itself,
Before a man knows it’s time to take his guns off the shelf.
A time to stand down, a time to engage,
A time for the world to be on the same page.

I wonder if the Gods were here today,
What in blazes to the battered they would say.
Commandments and parables they would painfully have to rewrite,
For a world where justice and freedom are quickly taking flight.

Lives are disrupted, lives are lost,
The giant is set for the kill with his mighty force.
The price of energy, the price of grain,
To some, it is of more concern than David’s pain.
The Gods shudder, don’t know what to say.
Finally, it has dawned, humanity has lost its way.
