Cackle of the Cattle

The cackle of the cattle
Fed with lies and hey,
As they rally for the battle,
Though they know they'll rue the day.

As they charge with bloodshot eye,
Fill the skies with blood-thirst cry,
As they take to roads to plunder,
As they pound the earth with thunder.

Blind to reason, cries of treason,
They fill the air with every season,
Flaming fire as hottest summer,
Wintry cold of death's slumber,

Crimson autumn, blood that's spilt,
By swords, unearthly, unleashed from hilt,
Bullets' mort-patter as spring rainfall
As lions 'n tigers plunge to maul

Unified with colours gaudy,
United in their intent,
Unified as one body
Following their unnatural bent.

Eyes fixated, baited breath
Saturated venom'd death,
Unrelenting genocide,
Heedless to fratricide

As cold instrument o' callous murder,
Hypnotised by call of herder,
Exhilarated as they hear
Six more corpses added to bier.

As the cackle of the jackal
Screaming war-cries of the night,
As they rally for the battle,
As they rally for the fight.

About this poem

This poem was written to depict not only the impact of war on those killed and wounded but also on those waging the war, the mob-mentality inflicted by the army on its fighters.
