Happiness in Little Things

Adjekawen A. Jeremiah 1998 (Delta State, Nigeria)

Happiness is found in little things.
Time casts its spell at all.
And a glass of water's enough,
For a ship to sail in.

A heart may beat again from trifles.
Colour the sky with kindness,
And even a paper bird will fly,
And the wind may sing.

Send your care, wrapped in alms,
Clothe the destitute with succour,
Lit a candle aflame, and see,
The world in a grain of sand;
And a heaven, in wild flowers.

All for passion, and none for shows.
None for fashion, and all for love.
Eternity may be spent in few hours.
Hold infinity in your palms.

The world is tiny, a droplet.
I believe love is a planet,
And even a kite is enough,
For one to fly round it.

About this poem

An overriding theme of this poem is that which centers on the reality that being good, while not so cheap, does not need to be very expensive. A simple show of care, devoid of selfish or ulterior motives, can forever uplift and change a life. It pays to be good!
