A SOLDIER'S TRIBUTE

A desire greater than life
A purpose so overwhelming spirit cannot deny.
A dream rather to die fulfilling than live.
A dream wherein lies fulfilment.
Fulfillment that brings contentment.
Contentment, that life even though could end short, was well lived.
It is a calling far far greater than life itself.
A calling, so great reason cannot comprehend.
A calling so deep, spirit soul and body cannot resist.
A call from where deep calls upon the deep.
Manifesting in response to duty.
Duty, a higher calling.
Responding with deep conviction and alacrity.
A call to the highest calling of human endurance.
Only the brave dare respond.
Only the brave hears the call.
Only the brave dream that dream, hear that call from the deep,
And are willing.
Not all hear the call, because the call is not for all,
And yet for all that hear the call not all are chosen.
It’s in being chosen, that dreams begin.
Fulfillment begins.
Purpose begins.
The call to duty.
A chance for mortal man to test the immortality.
Blessed be they who hear the call and are chosen.
In the hands of such lie’s destiny.
Lies hope for the future, Lies security.
I am a soldier, it is my higher calling, my creed.

About this poem

A SOLDIERS TRIBUTE is just what the title says. In the early days of the war against terrorism, having witnessed the sacrifices men and women made to serve in the armed forces, it came to me to pen this tribute.
