Appearances Judged

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Appearances judged seldom disappoints,
The same results to anticipate coming.
With a listening to hear,
Someone claiming to know...
Truth for what it is.
From nowhere to appear.
Since whispered in their ears,
It was made clear to verify.
By someone who told them,
They didn't know who discovered it.
But said knew what was true.
From reliable resourceful gossipers.
Known not to exaggerate,
A single word from others heard!

'Say what?
From where did you hear,
Such vindictive and malicious deliciousness?
I can't believe this.'

'I couldn't either.
That's why I was told,
To keep it to myself.
And I expect you to do the same.'

'Of course I will.
Have you known me to lie?'
