What Was

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Extortion, distortion and deception to delude.
Today?
More are heard to say,
What was isn't what was used to be.
With rules to obey and respect to give.
But always is the topic wished,
To want what was to have back again.
When truth did not require,
A comparison to fiction.
Many accept than the evidence of facts.
Even if a was to remember,
Seems better lived when reminisced.
By those relying upon,
The existence of common sense.

Too good had been that was to stay that way.
Without something to introduce and create,
Conflict and havoc...
To celebrate the escalating to appreciate,
Craze.
And these days to find,
More defining a normal way of life...
Impossible to live.
If madness is not served as an appetizer.

'What has happened to reality?'

'That menu has long been changed.
Would you like more time,
To decide other offers we do serve?
Our specialty today is...
TAKE THE BITTER WITH THE SWEET.
OR JUST LEAVE FEELING DISGUSTED.'

'Uh...
And this you say is your specialty?'

'Yes.
And quite popular it is.'

'I will take,
One order of your Corruption Platter.
Smothered in smoked hoodwink sauce.'

'Sold out.
However...
I recommend,
Our Duped to Stay Tricked...
Fried Chicken Wings.
You can order them to go if you wish.'
