Super… Human

I’ll bleed
into earth’s arteries,
churn like lava,
shift
tectonic plates
that will shake stars
loose
from their apex
in the sky, I’ll
squeeze mountains
into a piece
of coal
that burns hotter
than the sun
to a million
solar systems,
I’ll incinerate
darkness with fire
like paper
over a flaming
lighter—
just to see you smile.

About this poem

This poem is original by me, Anthony Collins. During a time when we see the most terrible acts of selfishness, I’m still amazed by the selflessness ingrained in human nature. This poem reflects the lengths to which we people will go just to give others even the slightest sense of joy.
