My Best Friend

Tommy was my best friend growing up
I knew him better than none.
He was the youngest of the family of five
They took me to see my first theater movie, Bambi. We played in my play house, he hid In the attic. His brother came after him.

We went snowsledding with his brother and friend.They looked at the old lady down the street, she had poodles that yapped when people walked by. A husband who sat outside.  He was as kind and quiet as she was loud and unfriendly.  

We would go fishing together, go swing on the swings together, play pass with a baseball.  He was my best friend.

As we grew up we drifted towards our own friends. Yet we would always smile and acknowledge each other.  Even the day that lead to his last day on this earth. He smiled his crooked smile, waved and I waved back.  He was my best friend to the end.
