A Heart Condition

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Lord, when You look upon us
You see our heart’s condition
And if we will not turn to You
You won’t grant our petition

Your rest is for the righteous
Who have turned to You in faith
The wicked turn their own way
And remain in their own place

Will they have eternal rest
Is that their heart’s desire
Or just to use their lying tongues
To quench some of their fire

Lord, You know all of this and more
Things I can hardly fathom
When temptation tries to steal our lives
Let us not be like Adam
