You Don't Own Me

Thought you could keep me trapped in that small cage?
You really thought that I wouldn't find my worth?
That I would just rely on you financially?
Not even one thought came to your mind that I would begin to love myself again.
Now here we are with my chest out and my head high in the sky.
I make my own money!
I don't feel so God damn useless.
I look in the mirror and I can say that I finally made it.
I did this.
Did it with tears in my eyes, negative thoughts running in my mind, and riding my bike there and back.
Yes, it took this long but if no one will say it I will.
I am proud of me!
Came a long way from Hell.
No more controlling everything I do, say, or think.
I am my own person.
I told you I would come back on top.
Mount Everest don't have shit on me!
You don't own me!

Boom! There we are fighting the inner demons to spite the way we feel so that we're able to function even when those f*cking voices say "You can't do it." Bullshit! We CAN do it and we WILL. The world is just a place. How we perceive it and ourselves determines our quality of life. You're winning because you're stronger than you know. Beast mode, Kenya, BEAST MODE. You are damn well worth it. LOVE your poetry, sister.
