Birthmark

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

That arrogance you flaunt.
With a swaggering pride.
Is it a birthmark?
Or an applied and practiced affectation?

'I had been born with it.
So I suppose,
Any depiction you use would be valid.'

I see.
You seem not to be bothered,
By my sarcastic remarks.

'Any comments you make,
To believe I can be offended.
Will not change that birthmark you see.
And besides,
Why would I be seeking confirmation.
To flaunt something you notice.
As if the doing to be proud of myself,
Is an affectation practiced...
You confuse arrogance with pride.'

I did say,
I was being sarcastic.

'And that changes my birthmark?'

'That?
I really did not notice to see at all?'

'You had to.
You were the one,
Who brought it to my attention.
And I mentioned nothing about that,
To you.'
