alone

Ed Hatch 1980 (muskoka)

Alone

What is it to be alone?
Is it to be by yourself? No one around?
Or is it to be bored? With nothing to be done?
Is it to be hated?

Or...is it to be loved, but ignored?
Is it to love someone, and they hurt you ?
Is it to have someone to hold... And they don't hold you?
Is it wanting  to make someone happy.... But they are happy without you?
Is it wanting to be needed.... But you're not?
Is it needing someone... And they don't need you?
Is it wanting someone.... And never having them? Or only having them when they need you?

Is it to be surrounded by people...  And no one hears you crying out for help?
Or... Someone asks if you're ok... And they believe your lies?

Is it not seeing a way out? Is it not having something to work towards?

Is it realizing...  That no matter what you do.... What you say.... What you plan.....that there isn't anything to look forward too?
That you will never accomplish anything?

Is it always looking back on your regrets? And not having anything to look forward to in the future ?

Or is it.... Only ever having questions....and no answers?
