Solomon: The Sage

His was the life of the mightiest sage
His was a crown of cosmic wisdom
His was proverbs for a timeless age
His was a king of a great kingdom

This wise Solomon, all these he said
That men would heed and so be led:

Wisdom is king, the principal thing
Get understanding to be outstanding
Guard your heart; you must be smart
For the heart springs all that life brings

This wise Solomon, all these he said
But at his end, he lived a fool instead

What hope have I if the best can fall?
What faith have I if a sage can be dull?
But this my hope, his last words to us:
Fear the lord, my duty and yours thus.
