Tall Grass Murder

Brady Bowen 1973 (Louisiana)

time will stalk you as a lion
whether you be urchin or scion
slow motioned aged savagery
to shred your carnal menagerie
of sinews, muscles, wrinkled brain
as you scream your mortal refrain

what will your wordless scream then tell
when feline death your heartbeat quells
her ivory-daggers in your spine
go away life, this one is mine

will you scream defiance to the end
of life lived fiercely as you send
your thoughts back to many victories
the mask of failure seldom seen

or will you cry out to your maker
becoming a dying fist shaker
i can’t believe that you did this
just as I achieved my aged bliss

Thinkest you to cry for healing
gazing at that azure ceiling
evaluating mortal harms
as you recite ecclesial charms

Or maybe you will welcome death
glad for whatever injureth
the flow of your life giving breath
because f*ck it. Amen. Alleluia. Inshallah.

Damn you have the gift. I hope my comments aren't an annoyance. I just like reading good poetry and feel they deserve praise. This is another fave.
