Euro-African Geese

And then, one by one at first,
They air their wings,
And then lift themselves
To an antique sky of glistening.

So we sorcerers of the wind
We’ll challenge the sky
The power of life is dawning
Stretch your limbs, aim higher.
The lust of life is yearning.

Then watch the ebony sky
From the north geese comes gliding
Through mystical shadows of light.

A symbol of freedom
Your history seem a maze
Of secret dark alleys, never to deliver.
Your chromosomes, beaten by all season,
Chemistry by genius, simply amaze.
Twisted and moulded, the finest silver.

So spread your wings to an African kingdom
And turn your radar gaze
To where stream and river meet
And bond by random
To you a simple fase,
Your genes will deliver magic confetti
For a feast of creation.
A nursery which will raise forever
The human soul in wonder.

About this poem

I wrote this poem in 1983 to celebrate migratory birds and the wonder of their navigational instinct.
