Steadfast Love
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
The Lord works righteousness,
Justice for the oppressed;
Showing His faithfulness,
For those who have confessed.
For He made known His ways,
His acts to the people;
Gracious to those who praise,
Going to His temple.
The Lord is merciful,
Plenty of steadfast love;
Making all beautiful,
From His throne up above.
He will not always chide,
Nor keeping His anger;
For those who will abide,
And who will not linger.
He does not deal with us,
After we commit sin;
Nor repaying as thus,
But He will discipline.
For as high as Heaven,
Being above the earth;
Steadfast love is given,
Those fearing since their birth.
Far as east is from west,
He removes transgressions;
Confessing at its best,
Stopping the aggressions.
A father will console,
Compassion of who fear;
To comfort their soul,
For those who will revere.
For He knows our frame,
Knowing that we are dust;
Cancelling our shame,
When we give our trust.
