Kick Me When I’m Down

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

I can’t run away and there’s no place to hide
I’m trapped like a rat just along for the ride
I’m really afraid; I don’t know where it ends
And I really hope someday we can be friends
But I doubt that will happen although I will try
Sometimes its too hard getting over the lie
I really do love her and that’s why it hurts
I don’t want other men reaching under her skirts
I don’t want to have them plunder my treasure
And ruin my vineyard as they take their pleasure
But I have to remember it’s still her choice
I could holler and scream but I’d just lose my voice
