Refugees

The Refugees

We packed our faces,
In empty cases.
Bolted our lips
Blocked out our minds.
No real aim and no plan.
You do not take any belongings
From your roots, and where
You once belonged.
This will be the new start
Of life for ever lasting
longing for belonging.

No time is left now,
To understand what stories
We are leaving behind.
There is so much pain and sorrow,
We are not facing the desecration,
Of what was once our name.

Silently heading, for the unknown
To swim, or to sink without
A sound, tears
Or sad goodbyes
For those by a bullet or by drowning might die.

About this poem

This current war in the Ukraine brings to mind the horrors and pain to the ordinary people who bear the cost of human madness and absolute absurdity of force
