Such Lessons

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Words heard to hear spoken.
Are not first taken to accept,
The severity of them to digest.
Because of the delivery unsweetened,
Is purposely direct.
With an emphasis unexpected.

This to do,
Coming from anyone...
Immediately offends,
The ones defending their pretensions.
With a teaching taught to deceive.
Like those who were taught,
Such lessons themselves.

'From your perception.
Could we be heading,
Towards a catastrophe of humanity?'

'From my perception?'

'Yes.
From your perception.
Could this be a possibility?'

'I was the one who told you,
To grow the 'F' up.
And see things as they are.
Then you said to me to save my breath.
And that I did.
So now you request,
My solicited opinion?
Well...
I am sure I can not be the only one,
Who told you to see reality.
For what it was.
But you were made convinced,
Your safe life to live deluded to fiction...
Is much better for you,
If you remained to stay avoiding...
The truth to accept it as is protects?
What next?
A life of free passes,
To romance the enhancement...
Of special effects?'

'But...
From my point of view,
That to do has been 'F'd' up too!'

'Seriously?
You are kidding me?
And...
Do you have a clue,
As to why that too may be true?'

'No.
No I don't.'

'Such lessons taught,
To refuse the truth...
With a teaching to delude,
And fiction life as is to refuse...
The reality of it.
Can come to bite and sting,
Behinds unprepared...
To pay the consequences.'

'So...
What is it to me you are saying?'

'Delaying to pay attention,
To a truth told to say directly to you...
Takes longer to heal a stubborn butt!
Especially for those with butts,
Refusing to grow the 'F' up!
Regardless of the other stuff.
Smothering to cover the truth to delude,
To fiction and deceive.
Ultimately becomes,
A painful existence few can sit with.'

'And how do you know that?'

'Life to experience the reality of it,
Has been the best teacher of lessons...
I could nolonger avoid.
Although I will admit,
Despising every bit...
Of having my delusions denied exposed!
As I sat to apply numbing ointment,
To relieve my behind down to my toes!
Done to cure,
My repeated visits with doubt!
While being left alone to figure it out.'
