Only Survivor

I was a little girl waiting to hug my angel,
you
deprived me of the light, air and love,
carving my lungs, nose and heart,
couldn’t enjoy the life because
I wasn’t wanted.
I didn’t survive the evil you nested and nurtured in your heart.
***
I was a toddler fleeing the oppressor with my parents,
Trudged to unknown through cold, dark night
on narrow paths in the woods,
seeking refuge in darkness, hoped to reach the light,
on the other side
but
the darkness and cold water devoured me.
I didn’t survive the wrath of your ego that you can’t let go.
***
I was a dedicated teacher
embodied the altruism, chastity and compassion,
determined to fight ignorance and hate,
wanted to offer my arms to all,
but
ignorance, hatred and fear tortured and killed me.
I didn’t survive the bigotry and jealousy
that captured your mind.
***
I was an expecting mother, waiting to and kiss my new born,
couldn’t even smell my baby because
you handcuffed and sent me to the jail,
leaving my heart in the delivery room.
I didn’t survive your indifference.
***
I was your brother from the same mother,
or your own son or daughter
that you raised with care, pride and honor,
you
ignored me, disowned me, dismissed me.
chose to be with the oppressor because
“he was feeding you”.
I didn’t survive the fear that encompassed your body and soul.
***

I was the trees, ants, deer, turtles and squirrels,
living in peace, away from you
until you torched our home to open up land,
for the free land you promised to your friends and fans
I didn’t survive the gluttony and your lust for unearned wealth.
***
I was the little barefooted girl with unkempt hair,
working for a dollar a day,
worked hard to make your shirt and skirt
couldn’t play with my peers to my heart’s content.
I didn’t survive your conscienceless nature.
***
I was the little daisy,
Born on a cool summer morning,
Bloomed for 40 days
Then, I went back to my Lord, leaving my angels in tears.
Lucky me,
didn’t have to suffer the sorrows.
I survived the misfortunes
that you offer to your
opponents.
